about

Original music for Aubrey Clinedinst's "Starman*" puppetry piece. Recording began in February 2020, performed in April 2022.

Melissa and I have worked on and off with Aubrey for years as they've developed a puppetry show involving space jellyfish, originally set to a soundtrack of music by David Bowie. An iteration of this show was to be performed in 2020, and in February, Aubrey visited our place and I forced myself to try some new things in order to generate a pretty significant amount of music over a short period of time. Featuring jangly guitar and lead synth solos, it's a departure from my typical work.

And then COVID put the performing arts on pause. After a false start in 2021, the show was back on for 2022, and with new footage to work with, I rearranged and rerecorded the music I'd made two years before. Now that the show's been performed in NYC, I spent some time further rearranging the material into something I could share more widely - including elements that weren't used in the show, but helped me with my process.
